Where is DSM Security based and what areas do you cover?
We are based in Edinburgh and provide expert security services across the city and Central Scotland, including Leith, Musselburgh, Gogar, and Ingliston. As a locally focused business, we prioritise rapid response for our customers. While our physical correspondence address is in the Broomhall area, we operate as a mobile service, bringing 26 years of experience and technical expertise directly to your doorstep.
Is DSM Security a certified installer in Edinburgh?
Yes. We are SSAIB certified (LOTH055) for both Intruder Alarms and CCTV. Our founder, David Mullen, has over 26 years of continuous industry experience and is fully DBS checked. We strictly comply with the Police Scotland Policy on Police Response to Security Systems, ensuring your installation meets the highest professional and insurance standards.
Does DSM Security provide security for both homes and businesses?
Yes. David Mullen has over 26 years of experience securing both domestic residences and commercial premises throughout Edinburgh. Whether you need a simple, pet-friendly alarm for a semi-detached home or a complex, multi-site CCTV and access control network for a business, we have the technical expertise and the £1m liability cover to handle the project professionally.
What security systems do DSM Security install?
DSM Security specialises in the design, installation, and maintenance of SSAIB-certified intruder alarms, high-definition CCTV systems, fire detection, and smart access control solutions. We utilise professional-grade hardware from industry leaders like Ajax, Pyronix, Uniview, and Dahua. Our expertise extends beyond standard setups to include dual-path monitored systems and integrated smart-home security that you can control from your phone.
Are DSM Security’s burglar alarms wired or wireless?
We offer a versatile range of systems including sophisticated wireless alarms (like Ajax), traditional wired systems, and hybrid solutions. Wireless systems are our most popular choice for domestic installs due to their ‘no-mess’ setup and 2-3 hour installation time. For higher-security commercial needs, we provide robust wired systems and CSL dual-path monitoring which uses a SIM-card failsafe to keep you protected even if your Wi-Fi is cut or fails.
What brands of security equipment does DSM Security use?
We only install reliable, ‘tried and tested’ technology from trusted manufacturers. This includes Ajax and Pyronix for smart alarms, Uniview and Dahua for 4K CCTV, Honeywell and Paxton Access for entry control, and specialist components from Viper, Castle Care Tech, and Yuasa. This wide range allows us to tailor a system specifically to your property’s layout and your budget.
If my WiFi goes down does that effect my alarm?
For maximum reliability, we offer dual-path monitored systems (via CSL DualCom). These systems utilise a built-in SIM card as a failsafe; if your Wi-Fi is cut or fails, the alarm maintains a secure cellular connection to the monitoring station to ensure Police or keyholder notification.
What types of CCTV cameras does DSM Security install?
We install a comprehensive range of CCTV technology, from standard Full HD (1080p) to ultra-clear 4K cameras. Our options include Thermal imaging, 360° Fisheye cameras, and Covert/Pinhole setups for specialist needs. We specialise in Viper, Uniview and Dahua systems, which offer superior night vision and smart motion detection to significantly reduce false alerts.
Can I control my security system with a smartphone app?
Absolutely. Most modern systems we install, such as Ajax and Pyronix, come with dedicated smartphone app integration. This allows you to arm/disarm your alarm, receive real-time alerts, and view live CCTV footage from anywhere in the world. While app subscriptions are typically paid directly to the hardware provider, we handle the full technical setup to ensure your devices are securely connected.
How much are the ongoing costs after installation?
We believe in transparency. All new installations include a 12-month hardware warranty and 12 months of service cover. After the first year, basic service and maintenance is just £80 +VAT per year. If you choose a Police-connected monitored system, the subscription is approximately £20 +VAT/month, paid directly to the monitoring provider.
Can you repair a system that another company installed?
Absolutely. we specialise in taking over and repairing legacy systems from other providers. Whether you’ve just moved into a new home with an old system or your current provider is unresponsive, we can service, repair, and often upgrade your existing hardware to work with modern smartphone apps. We can often upgrade older wired systems to work with modern smart apps, and we offer annual maintenance contracts for just £80 +VAT to ensure your existing hardware remains insurance-compliant.
Does DSM Security only deal with security systems?
No. While we are security specialists, our technical background allows us to provide related high-level services including data cabling and specialised electrical work. For existing customers, we also provide 24-hour emergency call-out support. Our goal is to be a single, reliable point of contact for all the technology that keeps homes and businesses in Edinburgh safe and connected.
